A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING THAT THE
MEANS BY WHICH THE FUNDS FOR THE ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE BE
ALLOCATED AMONG THE FIVE (5) DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BE
PROPORTIONATE TO THE PERCENTAGE OF POVERTY LEVELS BASED ON
THE FIVE (5) YEAR POVERTY RATE AS DETERMINED BY THE AMERICAN
COMMUNITY SURVEY, AS ADJUSTED ANNUALLY.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 14-0362, adopted September 23, 2014, the City
Commission approved an allocation of funds in the amount of $1.25 million ("Funds") for the newly
created Anti -Poverty Initiative ("Initiative"); and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") wishes to separate the Funds and all future funding for the
Initiative among the five (5) City districts; and
WHEREAS, the City has determined that the most effective means of allocation among the City
districts should be based on the level of poverty within that district;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The establishment of Accounts for the five (5) City districts, for the sole purpose of
allocating Poverty Initiative Funds to said districts, utilizing the proportionate percentage of poverty
levels based on the five (5) year poverty rate determined by the American Community Survey, as
adjusted annually, is approved.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}

{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10)
calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
