It is respectfully recommended that the Miami City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing a contribution to Neighbors and Neighbors Association, Inc. (N.A.N.A.) for the Save our
Sons Liberty Square Initiative in an amount not to exceed $15,000, allocating funds from the Law
Enforcement Trust Fund, Award No. 1019, Project Number 19-890002, Account Code No.
12500.191602.883000.0000, with such expenditures having been approved by the Chief of Police as
complying with the U.S. Department of Justice's "Guide to Equitable Sharing for State and Local Law
Enforcement Agencies (2009 as amended)."
Background Information:
The Miami Police Department supports the efforts of those organizations that assist the department
in its fight against criminal activities. N.A.N.A., through its Save our Sons Liberty Square Initiative
will establish a mentoring and training center in the heart of Liberty Square, as part of their crime
prevention initiative. The requested funding would be utilized to defray some of the costs and
expenses of organizing and administering the program.
During the initial six (6) months of the project, N.A.N.A. agrees to provide anti -crime services to the
City of Miami. Their purpose is to drastically reduce crime and violence with an emphasis on
community safety, mentoring, and transformational training.
