ABOUT THIS PROJECT This project involves the rebuilding of the interstate 395 (I-395) corridor from its terminus at the west of the 1-95/Midtown Interchange (1-95/State Road 836/1-395) to its corridor terminus at the West Channel Bridges of US 41/MacArthur Causeway, approximately 1.4 miles. 1-395 is an Interstate Principal Arterial and major east -west connector serving Miami Beach and the ports. Proposed improvements include: • Building new elevated ramps (one eastbound and one westbound) that will provide direct linkage between 1-95 and 1-395 Improving roadway design including updating the alignment and upgrading. the roadway surface • Creating a visually appealing bridge • Building vertically higher structures that will improve the visual quality of the bridge PROJECT DURATION The preliminary design phase of this project began in June 2011. The anticipated completion date for preliminary design activities is August 2014. This project is currently in the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) as a priority 3, for construction. ESTIMATED PROJECT COST The project has an estimated construction cost of $500M to $600M in present day cost depending on selected structural design. The Department has some funding in 2021 with remainder outside of the 10 year Strategic lntermodal System (SIS) Plan. BACKGROUND The Florida Department of Transportation District Six initiated a Project Development. and Environment (PD&E) Study in 2004 to determine and document the feasibility of improving the geometric, operational and safety deficiencies of the 1-395 corridor. The PD&E study was completed with the approval of the Record of Decision (ROD) from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on July 16, 2010. Lc; T. N.W. 11 ST. ' N.W. (0 ST. N. W. 9 ST. N.
