HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-14-0483City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-14-0483 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-01228b Final Action Date: 12/11/2014 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), URGING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTTAND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT THE ISSUES ADOPTED AS THE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI DURING THE 2015 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, municipal self-determination and local self-government are constantly under pressure from a variety of public and private interests; and WHEREAS, a majority of Florida's cities have experienced negative impacts to construction, property values and the employment base as a result of the global economic slowdown; and WHEREAS, sea -level rise is a direct threat to the welfare of communities across South Florida and immediate action, as described in the Miami -Dade Sea Level Rise Task Force report, is necessary to preserve Floridians' quality of life; and WHEREAS, Florida's municipalities are dependent on other governmental entities for financial stability and support; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami had identified its 2015 legislative priority items and request the support of the legislature regarding these issues; and WHEREAS, Governor Rick Scott and Florida's House and Senate leaders have an opportunity to address the concerns of the City of Miami and other municipalities during the upcoming 2015 legislative session; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Resolution. Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Rick Scott and the members of the Florida Legislature to support the issues adopted as the legislative priorities for the City of Miami, attached and incorporated, during the 2015 legislative session. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Rick Scott and the members of the Florida Legislature Section 4.
