HomeMy WebLinkAboutSummary FormCIP N%A If using or receiving ca ital funds Grants n1/UA Purchasing Chief 1.1I'/1- AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM FILE ID: 14-01073 Date: 10/22/2014 Requesting Department: Solid Waste Commission Meeting Date: 12/11/2014 District Impacted: Citywide Type: X Resolution Ordinance El Emergency Ordinance ❑ Discussion Item ❑ Other Subject: 2014-2015 Solid Waste Recycling Educational Trust Fund Scholarships Purpose of Item: Law Department Matter ID No. 14-2529 A resolution of the Miami City Commission, approving fourteen (14) scholarships to attend an educational institution or to obtain a commercial driver's license in an amount not to exceed $3,000 per scholarship, for the following eligible applicants: Lance -McCoy, Marcus -Sands, --William-Sosa;-V-ickson-Carvii,-Jonathon Duarte; Marchae Glenn, Sidnesha Holland, Diana Jules, Khalil Lewis, Anna McKnight, Robert Mungin, Angelo Perry, SheritASmith, and Hedrick Toussaint; Authorizing the City Manager or designee to disburse the scholarships, upon discretion, with the presentation of satisfactory documentation from the educational institutions or vocational programs; further authorizing the execution of all documents necessary for said purpose, in a form acceptable to the City Manager or designee and City Attorney; allocating funds from the Special Revenue Fund entitled, "Solid Waste Recycling Educational Trust Fund". Background Information: Pursuant to this educational trust fund having been established from certain monies received by the City of Miami ("City") from the recycling program upon the accumulation of interest from the recycling program funds, as prescribed by Section 22-15, a scholarship award may be made for an amount that does not exceed $3,000 annually, to eligible, qualified employees of the City Department of Solid Waste, or the children or legal dependents of these employees, based upon a recommendation from the Director of Solid Waste, which is based on the applicable criteria in the ordinance or documents promulgated under it.
