Purpose of Item:
A Resolution establishing a new Special Revenue Project entitled: "Miami DUI Checkpoint and
Saturation Patrol Overtime Project," and appropriating funds, consisting of a grant award from the
Florida Department of Transportation, for the Department of Police, in the amount of $172,500, to
provide funding for highway safety; authorizing the City Manager to accept said grant, and to execute
the necessary documents, to implement acceptance of said grant. No matching funds required.
Background Information:
The City of Miami submitted a grant application to the Florida Department of Transportation for
highway safety funds for the purpose of implementing the Miami DUI Checkpoint and Saturation
Patrol Overtime Project. This project aims to reverse the trend of impaired driving related traffic
crashes and fatalities in the City of Miami and to enhance its enforcement efforts and deterrence
capability.
