HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-01143 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "MIAMI DUI CHECKPOINT AND SATURATION PATROL OVERTIME PROJECT," AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS, CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI DEPARTMENT OF POLICE, IN THE AMOUNT OF $172,500.00, TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT AND TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") submitted a grant application to the Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT"), to fund Driving Under the Influence ("DUI") checkpoints and DUI saturation enforcement patrols in order to promote highway safety; and WHEREAS, the FDOT has notified the City that its application for funding this project has been approved, in an amount not to exceed $172,500.00; and WHEREAS, funds from this grant will be used by the City Police Department for the purpose of implementing the "Miami DUI Checkpoint and Saturation Patrol Overtime Project," in order to reverse and deter the trend of impaired driving related traffic crashes and fatalities in the City; and WHEREAS, it would be appropriate for the City Manager to accept said grant, and to establish a new Special Revenue Project for the appropriation of said award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are appropriated as described below: FUND TITLE: Miami DUI Checkpoint and Saturation Patrol $172,500.00 Overtime Project RESOURCES: Florida Department of Transportation APPROPRIATIONS: Highway Safety Program $172,500.00 Section 3. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: 7, VICTOIrA MENDEZ CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
