A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE UNITED
STATES CONGRESS AND THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO PASS LEGISLATION
GIVING PREFERENCE TO RESIDENTS LOCALLY SITUATED WHERE
GOVERNMENT FUNDS ARE BEING USED FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING
PROJECTS; MAKING THIS A FEDERAL AND STATE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY FOR
THE CITY OF MIAMI DURING THE 2015 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; FURTHER
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO
THE DESIGNATED OFFICIALS STATED HEREIN.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") is a recipient of funds from the United States Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and funds from the State Housing Initiatives Partnership
program (SHIP); and
WHEREAS, said funds are largely used to develop properties for affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, the need for affordable housing in the City is great; and
WHEREAS, the need for affordable housing by local residents residing in proximity to affordable
housing projects is greater than the supply; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to assist its City residents in gaining greater access to
affordable housing situated near them; and
WHEREAS, legislation by the United States Congress and the Florida Legislature giving
preference to residents locally situated near affordable housing projects would benefit City residents in
need of affordable housing;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission urges the United States Congress and the Florida Legislature to
pass legislation giving preference to residents locally situated near affordable housing projects
receiving government funds.
Section 3. This Resolution shall be included in the City's federal and state legislative priorities for
the 2015 Legislative Session.
Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to President Barack
Obama, the members of the United States Congress, Governor Rick Scott, and to members of the
Florida Legislature.

Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.(1)

Footnotes:
(1) If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission
