HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-01016 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $178,924.09, TO FUND THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT'S PRORATED SHARE OF OPERATING EXPENSES FOR THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE COUNTY COURT STANDBY PROGRAM FOR THE FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING OCTOBER 1, 2014, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2015; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET, ACCOUNT NO. 00001.191501.534000.0000.00000. WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City") Police Department, as most other police departments in Miami -Dade County, face rising court overtime costs; and WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police ("Association") and the Miami -Dade County State Attorney's Office have implemented the Association's Court Overtime Reduction Program ("Program"), which employs administrative support personnel to notify victims, witnesses, and officers when they are required to appear in court; and WHEREAS, this Program has greatly reduced the costs of overtime for court appearances for all participating local law enforcement agencies; and WHEREAS, the local law enforcement agencies participating in the Program are invoiced for their prorated share of operating expenses based on the proportional utilization of services during the previous fiscal year, as defined by the number of traffic, domestic violence, and misdemeanor court cases processed for the local law enforcement agencies through the Miami -Dade State Attorney's Office at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building, located at 1351 Northwest 12th Street, Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, the funding will assist the Association and the Miami -Dade County State Attorney's Office with expenses related to the hiring of administrative support personnel necessary to continue the Program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of funds, in the amount not to exceed $178,924.09, for the City Police Department's prorated share of the Program's operating expenses during the fiscal year commencing on October 1, 2014, to the Association, is authorized, with funds allocated from the Police General Operating Budget, Account No. 00001.191501.534000.0000.00000. Section 3.
