HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-01015 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: " BJA FISCAL YEAR 2013 SMART POLICING INITIATIVE," CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE, IN THE AMOUNT OF $605,394.00, TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR TECHNOLOGY ACQUISITION, TRAINING, PERSONNEL, AND OTHER ASSOCIATED COSTS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ANY OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT AWARD. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant in the amount of $605,394.00, by the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, to purchase a predictive modeling software workbench and hire an experienced statistical analyst who is capable of building and interpreting predictive models as well as a researcher who will conduct evaluations of data; and WHEREAS, the predictive modeling software will be capable of providing crime forecasting and criminal behavior analytics in conjunction with, or overlaid against, the existing hot spot technology; and WHEREAS, this will improve the ability of the City's Department of Police to make force deployment decisions and increase crime clearance rates, specifically for auto -thefts and robberies; and WHEREAS,this award does not require any matchfrom the City; and WHEREAS, said grant is awarded for a period of three (3) years, beginning October 1, 2014, through September 30, 2017; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are appropriate as described below: FUND TITLE: BJA Fiscal Year 2013 Smart Policing Initiative RESOURCES: Department of Justice/Office of Justice Programs, $605,394.00 Bureau of Justice Assistance City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 14-01015 (Version: 1) Printed On: 10/30/2014 File Number: 14-01015 APPROPRIATION: To provide funding for technology acquisition, training, $605,394.00 personnel, and other associated costs Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the Grant Agreement, in substantially the attached form, and any other necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement the acceptance and administration of said grant award. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: VI ORIA NDEZ CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
