The Miami Marine Stadium is a justifiably cherished unique landmark of Miami's heritage and architectural marvel which has grown to national and international prominence under the direction and advocacy of the Friends of Miami Marine Stadium. In 1992 a force of nature named Hurricane Andrew seemed to have dosed the book on the Miami Marine Stadium but thanks to its solid construction and through the efforts of a dedicated group of citizens and strong community support we all stand to benefit from the new chapter being written for this cultural landmark and legacy to future generations. What was old and in disrepair is now being rejuvenated through creative passion, vision, volunteerism, and generous philanthropy. In the face of daunting odds, the Friends of Miami Marine Stadium have impressively demonstrated their commitment to saving this historic landmark and making it viable The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust has had the privilege and opportunity to partner with the Friends of the Marine Stadium in a number of volunteer community efforts which continue to attract both local residents and visitors from around the country and the globe — with the promise of even more great things coming. The Miami Marine Stadium is a public waterfront venue unlike any other, and a piece of South Florida's history and heritage that must not be forgotten. It and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park are now recognized as cornerstones of the renaissance of Virginia Key.
