Commission Meeting Date:it/9 In Requesting Department:. :Police Distrjict Impactec1: 4 Type: X Resolution 1 Ordinance Emergency Ordinance 1 Discussion Item II Other Law Department Matter ID No. Subject: Resolution accepting and appropriating a grant award of $40,584 from the State of Florida, Office of the Attorney General for the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) program Purpose of Item: A Resolution of the Miami City Commission, with attachments, establishing a new Special Revenue Project entitled: "2014-2015 Victims of Crime Act (VOCA)," consisting of a grant award from the State of Florida, Office of the Attorney General, Division of Victim Services, in the amount of $32,467, and the City of Miami's required matching funds in the amount of $8,117, in -kind services from the City of Miami Police Department, for a total amount of $40,584; authorizing the City Manager to accept said grant award and to execute the grant agreement, in substantially the attached form, to implement the acceptance and administration of said grant. Background Information: The Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant program provides funds to support the provision of direct services to crime victims. Services are defined as those efforts that respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims, assist victims of crime to stabilize their lives after victimization, assist victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system and provide victims with a measure of safety and security. Funds from this grant will be used for the continued funding of a Victims Advocate's position for the duration of one year to coordinate services for the victims of crime.
