WAY"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES. WHEREAS, Sister Margarita Miranda Otero joined the Society of the Sacred Heart Religieuses du Sacree Coeur de Jesus ("R.S.C.J.") at the age of twenty-one (21), later becoming the principal of the Sacred Heart School in Santiago de Cuba and later in El Cerro, Havana, Cuba; and WHEREAS, Sister Margarita Miranda Otero resided and taught at The Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, Sister Margarita Miranda Otero and a group of volunteers were concerned about the situation where children were home alone after school while their parents worked; and WHEREAS, Sister Margarita Miranda Otero and volunteers donated their time and talents to the Little Havana community; and WHEREAS, Sister Margarita Miranda Otero created an informal "after -school program" that quickly expanded to classrooms within Ada Merritt School, where English, Religion, and cultural activities including music, art and dance were taught; and WHEREAS, the after -school program was later formally named in homage to the Virgin Mary (MaterAdmirabilis) patroness of the religious of the Sacred Heart Centro Mater; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this section. Section 2. Southwest 4th Avenue from Southwest 4th Street to Southwest 5th Street, Miami, Florida, is codesignated as "Sister Margarita Miranda Otero R.S.C.J. Way." Section 3. The City Manager is directed to instruct the City Clerk to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, Solid Waste, Miami -Dade County Public Works and Waste Management and the United States Postal Service. Section 4.
