HomeMy WebLinkAboutSubmittal-Commissioner Sarnoff-BPAC Resolution 01-2014BPAC RESOLUTION #01-2014 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A PAVED WALKING AND BICYCLING PATH ALONG THE FLORIDA EAST COAST RAILROAD CORRIDOR AND STATION AS PART OF THE ALL ABOARD FLORIDA PROJECT WHEREAS, the Miarni-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization. Governing Board has established the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) to advise it on non -motorized transportation issues; WHEREAS, walking and bicycling are practical means of travel to work, school, for personal business and for recreation for Miami -Dade County residents and visitors; WHEREAS, increasing opportunities for safe walking and bicycling will increase health, reduce obesity, and reduce the risk of many chronic diseases; WHEREAS, Florida East Coast Industries is developing the "All Aboard Florida" passenger rail service between Miami and Orlando; WHEREAS, there are over 100 active "rail with trail" projects in the United States; and WHEREAS, including a paved path along the FEC rail corridor will improve rail safety, connect neighborhoods and improve the health of the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION FOR 11-1E MIAMI URBANIZED AREA: THAT the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee supports a paved path along the Florida East Coast Railroad corridor and station as part of the All Aboard Florida project. The foregoing resolution was offered by Collin Worth who moved its adoption.
