HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-00498 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF PROGRAM YEAR 2014-2015 HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONS WITH AIDS PROGRAM FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $132,830.00 FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITYAND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, LONG TERM TENANT BASED RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM TO THE AGENCIES, AS SPECIFIED IN EXHIBIT "A", ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED, TO PROVIDE HOUSING ASSISTANCE AND HOUSING RELATED SERVICES TO LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS LIVING WITH AIDS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS ("HOPWA") Program was created under the AIDS Housing Opportunity Act and revised under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1992; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 13-0485, adopted December 12, 2013, the City Commission approved the allocation of HOPWA funds which included the allocation of Long Term Tenant Based Rental Assistance to certain agencies; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 14-0122, adopted March 27, 2014, the City Commission approved the de -obligation of the amount of $348,230.00 from the Miami Beach Community Development Corporation, the allocation of $215,400.00 to the Community AIDS Resources, Inc., and the amount of $132,830.00 to the City of Miami ("City") Department of Community and Economic Development, Long Term Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program; and WHEREAS, there are remaining additional clients from the Miami Beach Community Development Corporation, along with new clients from the waitlist to be transferred to other agencies; and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends the allocation of the amount of $132,830.00 from the City's Department of Community and Economic Development, Long Term Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program to the agencies as specified in Exhibit "A", attached and incorporated, to provide housing assistance and housing related services to low-income individuals living with HIV/AIDS; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPFSOVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: / VICtT�RIA MEN EZ CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited .to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
