The Playhouse does not need to be torn down. A demolition by neglect is a tactic was part of the County from the beginning of the lease. The theater is in this shape solely because the County purposely has allowed it to deteriorate and can definitely be spare from demolition. It is in this condition because the county has allowed it to deteriorate. Yet it definitely CAN BE RESTORED to its original splendor and I am referring to theentire theater, is not merely the facade. Then negotiating: settlement. agreements freeing the Playhouse from: all debt thus allowing it to reach an agreement with the State and FIU for a long-term leaseI attended every meeting that I was aware of and participated in the "Give It Back" protest in 2012. After that I realized that people were beginning to lose sight of our historic: places in Coconut Grove;: so in 2015 with the help of a few friends we raised enough money to place eight historic markers throughout the village. The first marker was put at the playhouseso that people would not forget about its significance in our community: Here we are 17 years later and some of us are faced with a'disa:ppointing loss but. with it comes some compromise on all sides. We will preserve the three story Kiefnel and Elliott building with the legacy of the playhouse. Along with it wilt come a new live performance theater with all the bells and whistles needed for:today's performances.
