HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-00449 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ENDORSING THE GREENLINK PROPOSAL FOR CREATING ATEN (10) MILE LINEAR PARK ALONG THE METRORAIL CORRIDOR; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE DESIGNATED OFFICIALS HEREIN. WHEREAS, the Friends of the GreenLink ("GreenLink") have proposed an initiative to transform the land underneath the MetroRail into a contiguous ten (10) mile walking and biking exercise path and linear park, from the Brickell Station to the Dadeland South Station; and WHEREAS, the GreenLink will provide a world -class mobility corridor with widened, straightened paths and improved crosswalks that protect the users; and WHEREAS, in similar cases, such as the High Line in New York City, property values adjacent to the once abandoned trail greatly increased; and WHEREAS, land contiguous to the MetroRail is of lesser value than properties just two (2) blocks off the rail line, and introduction of a linear park greatly improves the value of contiguous and adjacent properties; and WHEREAS, the MetroRail has a capacity deficiency and the GreenLink will attract and boost ridership along the entire GreenLink track and attract more riders to the transit stations within the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, the GreenLink plan proposes to transform the existing M-Path into actual park space within the City limits; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes that numerous economic, social, health, and environmental benefits would ensue from realization of the GreenLink as a linear park and enthusiastically endorses the GreenLink proposal; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolutions are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this .Section. Section 2. The City Commission endorses the GreenLink proposal for creating a ten (10) mile linear park along the Metrorail Corridor. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Rick Scott, members of the Florida Legislature, Mayor Carlos Gimenez and the Florida Department of Transportation.
