HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-14-0195City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-14-0195 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-00390a Final Action Date: 5/8/2014 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE OF THE CIVILIAN INVESTIGATIVE PANEL TO MEET IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 11.5-28 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, TO PRESENT THE CITY COMMISSION WITH NOMINATIONS OF INDIVIDUALS TO FILL VACANCIES ON THE CIVILIAN INVESTIGATIVE PANEL. WHEREAS, the Civilian Investigative Panel ("CIP") was created pursuant to Chapter 11.5 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code"); and WHEREAS, Section 11.5-28 of the City Code allows CIP members to serve a maximum term of six (6) consecutive years and outlines the procedures for forming a nominating committee to convene and submit nominations to the City Commission to fill vacancies on the CIP; and WHEREAS, the CIP nominating committee has not met since 2012 for purposes of screening applicants and submitting their nominations to the City Commission for appointment to the CIP; and WHEREAS, as a result, current CIP members are still serving despite having exceeded their term limit; and WHEREAS, in order to maintain the integrity of the CIP, it is imperative that any CIP member serving beyond their term limit be identified, removed, and that the CIP convene a nominating committee to solicit and screen applicants to submit to the City Commission for appointment. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby urges the CIP to identify and remove members who have served beyond their maximum term limits of six (6) consecutive years and convene a nominating committee pursuant to Section 11.5-28 of the City Code to solicit applications, consider all applicants, and submit nominations to the City Commission for appointment to the CIP. Section 3. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
