Purpose of Item: APPROVING THE EXTENSION OF THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI AND MARTIN LUTHER KING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION ("MLK") FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MLK EMERGENCY BUSINESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM TO FOR - PROFIT BUSINESSES; AMENDING THE PROGRAM GUIDELINES FOR SAID PROGRAM; PROVIDING AN ADDITIONAL $20,000 FOR PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION; AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR SAID PURPOSE. Director City Manager Page 1 of 1 AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED Background Information: Pursuant to Resolution 13-0194, adopted May 9, 2013 the Miami City Commission approved the MLK Emergency Business Assistance Program businesses within the 7th Avenue area that have been directly affected multiple times by theft and vandalism; and Due to the regulatory requirements most of the businesses were unable to provide the needed documentation to be awarded the funds. There is a current balance of $100,000 remaining in the program funds. There is still a need for the program in the community since additional businesses continue to be victims of air condition theft and vandalism. Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation ("MLK") continues to provide technical assistance to the businesses. The Administration recommends extending the contract between the City of Miami and MLK for the implementation of the MLK Emergency Business Assistance Program to For -Profit Businesses; amending the Program Guidelines for said program and providing an additional $20,000 for program administration
