HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-00328 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), EXTENDING THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI AND MARTIN LUTHER KING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MARTIN LUTHER KING EMERGENCY BUSINESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM TO FOR -PROFIT BUSINESSES; AMENDING THE MARTIN LUTHER KING BUSINESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM GUIDELINES AS SPECIFIED IN ATTACHMENT "A", ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED, FOR SAID PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING A PROVISION FOR AN ADDITIONAL $20,000.00, AS SPECIFIED IN ATTACHMENT "B", FOR PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 13-0194, adopted May 23, 2013 the Miami City Commission approved the Martin Luther King Emergency Business Assistance Program ("MLK Emergency Business Assistance Program") for businesses within the 7th Avenue, Miami, Florida, area that have been directly affected multiple times by theft and vandalism; and WHEREAS, due to the regulatory requirements, most of the businesses were unable to provide the needed documentation to be awarded the funds; and WHEREAS, there is a current balance of $100,000.00 remaining program funds; and WHEREAS, there is still a need for the program in the community since additional businesses continue to be victims of theft and vandalism; and WHEREAS, Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation continues to provide technical assistance to the businesses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") Administration recommends extending the contract between the City and Martin Luther King Business Center for the implementation of the Martin Luther King Emergency Business Assistance Program to for -profit businesses, amending the Martin Luther King Business Assistance Program Guidelines ("MLK Business Assistance Program Guidelines") for said program and providing an additional $20,000.00 for program administration; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The contract between the City and Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation for the implementation of the MLK Emergency Business Assistance Program to for -profit City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 14-00328 (Version: 1) Printed On: 4/24/2014 File Number: 14-00328 businesses, is extended. Section 3. The MLK Business Assistance Program Guidelines as specified in Exhibit "A", attached and incorporated, are amended. Section 4. The provision of an additional $20,000.00, as specified in "Attachment B", for program administration, is authorized. Section 5. The City Manager is further authorized {1} to execute all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} AP ROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ( CTORIA ENDEZ CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
