HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14-00154 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTTAND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT FUNDING OF THE MUSEUM PARK PROJECT DURING THE 2014 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADD FUNDING FOR THE MUSEUM PARK PROJECT TO THE LIST OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S 2014 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMITA COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") held a charrette and numerous public meetings regarding the future of Bicentennial Park and pursuant to Resolution No, 02-862, adopted July 25, 2002, the City Commission designated the development option of a "Cultural Park" also known as "Museum Park Miami" as the official design vision for Bicentennial Park ("Project"); and WHEREAS, the Project, a 21 acre public park with unrivaled views of Biscayne Bay, will be adjacent to the Perez Art Museum Miami and the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, two world class museums; and WHEREAS, the Project will be a significant community asset, enhancing the vibrancy and life of the City, and of its residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, additional funding would aid the City in fully realizing essential elements of the Project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Rick Scott and the members of the Florida Legislature to support funding of the Museum Park Project during the 2014 Legislative Session, Section 3. The City Manager is directed to add funding for the Museum Park Project to the list of the City of Miami's 2014 legislative priorities. Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Rick Scott, Senate President Don Gaetz, the Speaker of the House Will Weatherford, and to the Chair and Members of the Miami -Dade State Legislative Delegation. Section 5. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
