City of Miami P.U.L.S.E. Hotspot
Campaign
ENCES:
ENCLOSURES:
The Hotspot campaign is an initiative that was created by P.U.L.S.E. and supported by the City of
Miami. This initiative was to solicit information from the community that would help the City of
Miami improve our residents quality of life. The uniqueness of this initiative is the anonymous
reporting of crime. Traditionally, some residents have been reluctant to get involved for various
reasons. However, with this initiative I believe we have developed open lines of communication
between the City and its residents. During 2012 Hotspots has received approximately 500 tips
which has included information on murders, area of illegal dumping, drug sales, robberies,
prostitution just to name a few.
During 2013, the program was expanded citywide and we received approximately 51 tips from
District 1, 138 tips from District 2, 86 tips from District 3, 100 tips from District 4 and 258 tips
from District 5, a total of 633 tips.
The Hotspot program is a useful tool in the assistance in crime fighting. Additional funding would
be helpful to send out Hotspot cards and to hire bilingual personnel.
