HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 13-01349 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "FISCAL YEAR 2013 COPS HIRING PROGRAM," CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES (COPS), IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,875,000.00, WITH A REQUIRED LOCAL CITY OF MIAMI CASH MATCH OF $1,914,975.00, FOR ATOTAL AMOUNT OF $3,789,975.00; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") submitted a grant application to the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, for 25 new officers; and WHEREAS, the City received notification that said application was approved for 15 new officers and awarded a grant in an amount not to exceed $1,875,000.00, in federal funds over a three (3) year grant period, to support the salaries and fringe benefits; and WHEREAS, the local cash match required for this award is $1,914,975.00; and WHEREAS, the City must retain the funded positions for at least one (1) year after the grant ends, per the condition of the award; and WHEREAS, it would be appropriate for the City Manager to accept said grant and to establish a special revenue fund for the appropriation of said award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute the grant agreement, in substantially the attached form, and any other documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement the acceptance of and administration of said grant. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: VICTORIA MEIJDEZ� CITY ATTORNEY ' Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
