Subject: Amendment to the Living Wage Ordinance
Purpose of Item:
To amend Chapter 18/Article X, of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, entitled "Living Wage
Requirements for Service Contracts and City Employees", to expand the time frame for full
application of the Living Wage to City employees.
Background Information:
In April 2006, the Miami City Commission adopted Ordinance No. 12787 creating a Living Wage
Ordinance allowed the City to phase -in the payment of a living wage to employees over a three-year
period. In October 2009, the City Commission amended the ordinance to expand the time frame two
additional years. The administration is now respectfully requesting that the time frame be expanded
an additional four years to achieve full implementation in FY 2014-15. This amendment will only
affect the payment of a living wage to employees and will not affect the contracts portion of the
Living Wage ordinance.
