HomeMy WebLinkAboutMemo - Request for Sole SourceCITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Kenneth Robertson, Director Purchasing Department arc Maurice Kemp, Chief FROM : Department of Fire -Rescue DATE : SUBJECT: REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: June 27th, 2013 FILE : Request for Sole Source Finding: Pediatric Resuscitation System This -memorandum serves to request that you approve a finding that Pediatric Emergency Standards, Inc., located at 1440 Lantana Court, Weston, FL, 33326, is the sole source provider for Pediatric Resuscitation System. Pediatric Emergency Standards, Inc., is the Sole Source provider of the Handtevy Pediatric Box. This item is a comprehensive Pediatric Resuscitation System created for use by EMS Providers and will be customized for the City of Miami, Department of Fire -Rescue. The Handtevy Pediatric Box addresses the following components of pre -hospital care for children: The Handtevy system empowers the paramedic with the knowledge necessary to provide the life saving dose of 8 critical drugs on scene and in rapid fashion. The system is age and length based and consists of an educational component that instructs EMS personnel how to rapidly and accurately determine a child's weight and 8 critical drug doses simply by knowing the child's age. This allows the provider to confidently and easily determine the ideal body weight as well as the most critical first line medications before even arriving on scene. Confidence will soar and the paramedic can then focus his or her attention on rapid patient assessment and treatment. Each pediatric box will contain a customized medication book, with each page representing a colored zone on the length/age based tape created by Dr. Antevy. This measuring apparatus has the same number of zones and are colored the same as Broselow's tape. The customized medication book has not only the milligram dose for each drug but also lists the millileter dose (highligted in blue). This completely eliminates the need for medication calculations in the pre - hospital setting. At a time where error prevention, patient safety and improved outcomes are of utmost importance, customization of pediatric resuscitation will prove to be the new normal. Additionally this system will better equipment organization that will result in fewer errors and pays specific attention to drug issues and shortages.
