Department Matter ID No. 13-1115 It is recornrriended that the Miami City Commission adopt the attached Resolution establishing a new Special Revenue Project entitled: "Fiscal Year 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. (JAG) Program," consisting of a grant award from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, in the amount of $333,241, to provide funding to support several law enforcement initiatives; authorizing the City Manager to execute the grant agreement, in substantially the attached form, and any other documents in order to implement the .acceptance and administration of said grant award. Background Information: In response to the JAG 2013 local solicitation announcement, the City of Miami submitted a grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs. The JAG Program will provide funding towards law enforcement equipment and technology upgrades for the Miami Police Department. Specific purchases will include new eCitation software and portable printers, which will assist the Traffic Unit officers in writing citations more efficiently with less error, reducing the interaction time with traffic offenders, and improving officer safety. The Information Technology Support Section will purchase and upgrade approximately 89 mobile data computers to allow for more effective and efficient delivery of services. This grant is awarded for a period of four years, beginning October 1, 2012, through September 30, 2016. This award does not require any .local match.
