B City Attorney vl DATE: August 12, 2013 RE: Proposed Settlement for City Commission Meeting —September 12, 2013 Orlando Paredes vs. City of Miami File No. 13-00913 The attached proposed Resolution seeks authorization for settlement of all claims against the City of Miami by the above claimant, in the amount of $125,100, excluding permanent total disability benefits. In addition, the City will transfer the responsibility of permanent total disability to a third party payor by purchasing an annuity to cover this benefit. The cost of the annuity to cover lifetime permanent total benefits is approximately $114,697. These workers' compensation actions were brought by Orlando Paredes, a former City of Miami police officer, for injuries Mr. Paredes sustained in the course and scope of his employment with the City of Miami. The Office of the City Attorney has investigated and evaluated his claim and dates of accident and has approved the recommendation of this settlement. Funds in the amount of $125,100 are available from Account No. 50001.301001.524000.0000.00000.
