The program supports invasive exotic plant species removal at Marine Stadium Marina expiring on November 15, 2013. Purpose of Item: A Resolution of the Miami City Commission, with attachment(s), authorizing the City Manager to accept a grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Coastal Management Program for "Invasive Species Removal at Marine Stadium Marina" ("PROJECT"), in an amount not to exceed $28,975; authorizing the allocation of the City of Miami's matching funds for fifty percent (50%) of the PROJECT, in an amount not to exceed $28,975, as stated herein, for an estimated total project cost of $57,950, available under Capital Improvement Project 40-B30706; authorizing the City Manager to execute the grant agreement, in substantially the attached form, and all other necessary documents, in administration, an execution of said grant agreement. Background Information: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) provided federal financial assistance to DEP in 2011. DEP awarded the City with grant funding as a sub -recipient through its Coastal Zone Management program. This grant funding will support removal and disposal of the invasive exotic plants on the spoil island located at Marine Stadium Marina. Funding will also support information signage that will be posted on the island, to educate the public on the danger of non-native invasive species. The island has a dense population of native species, making it unnecessary to replant natives after removal is complete. Budget Impact Analysis YES Is this item related to revenue?
