HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-13-0272City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-13-0272 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 13-00700 Final Action Date: 7/11/2013 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING A CONTRIBUTION TO THE RICKIA ISAAC FOUNDATION EDUCATION SEMINAR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $25,000; ALLOCATING SAID FUNDS FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, AWARD NO. 1169, PROJECT NUMBER 19-690001, AND ACCOUNT CODE NO. 12500.191602.883000.0000, WITH SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH SECTION 932.7055, FLORIDA STATUTES, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes, as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department ("Department") supports the efforts of organizations that assist with its fight against criminal activity; and WHEREAS, the goal is to reduce gun violence by changing childhood and adult behavior regarding gun use; and WHEREAS, it does this by education and mentoring in order to create awareness that gun violence is unacceptable and a detriment to society; and WHEREAS, the requested funding will be utilized to defray the costs and expenses of organizing and presenting crime prevention educational seminars in the City of Miami schools and educational events in the community; and WHEREAS, funds for this program have not been included in the Department's normal operating budget and are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with the Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes, as amended; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes, as amended, the recipient, Rickia Isaac Foundation shall: 1) certify that funds appropriated will be used lawfully and for the purpose stated; 2) maintain proper accounting records for the expenditure of such monies; and, 3) provide any reports, including but not limited to audit reports, as may be required by the City of Miami or applicable law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Section 2. A contribution to the Rickia Isaac Foundation Education Seminar, in an amount not to exceed $25,000, is authorized, with funds allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Award No. 1169, Project Number 19-690001, and Account Code No. 12500.191602.883000.0000, with such expenditures having been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with the provisions of Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes, as amended. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1} Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days form the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
