Background Information:
The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS ("HOPWA") Program was created under the AIDS
Housing Opportunity Act and revised under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1992.
Since 1994 the City of Miami ("City") has received HOPWA Program funds from the United States
Department of Housing and Urban Development (" HUD") and has been responsible for the
implementation of programs designed to provide housing and related services to individuals living
with HIV/AIDS in the City and throughout Miami -Dade County.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 12-0469, adopted December 13, 2012, the Miami City Commission
approved the allocation of HOPWA funds in the projected amount of $12,163,466.
