HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 13-00474 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "FINANCIAL EMPOWERING COACHING", AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE OPERATION OF SAME, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $150,000, CONSISTING OF A GRANT FROM THE CITI FOUNDATION, FOR THE PURPOSES OF PROVIDING FINANCIAL LITERACY AND FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT COACHING TO 200 INDIVIDUALS IN THE GRANT PERIOD; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City's") Poverty Initiative and ACCESS Miami has, as one of its four cornerstones, the goal of assisting City entrepreneurs and small businesses access to benefits and the opportunity to reach financial self-sufficiency; and WHEREAS, the City's Office of Grants Administration, ACCESS Miami, applied and has been awarded a grant of $150,000 from Citi Foundation (the "Grant"), for the purpose of replicating and implementing an existing program model to provide financial literacy and financial empowerment one-on-one coaching to 200 individuals during the grant period; and WHEREAS, the Grant's goals is to replicate and implement in the City an existing program model to facilitate a comprehensive and coordinated effort to affect and improve the self-sufficiency of its low/moderate income working families and small business owners by increasing their access to the financial tools and education that are fundamental to economic prosperity and success; and WHEREAS, this additional funding will enable the City to leverage and take its existing financial literacy program which has served thousands of residents and low income small business owners to the next level of individualized coaching; and WHEREAS, the program will work with existing local providers and community organization to coordinate services and facilitate program access to provide one-on-one financial counseling to at least 200 individuals Citywide; and WHEREAS, the City Administration is requesting authorization from the City Commission for the acceptance of funds from the Citi Foundation in the amount of $150,000 and establishing a new Special Revenue Project entitled "Financial Empowering Coaching" to provide financial literacy and financial empowerment coaching to 200 individuals during the grant period; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 13-00474 (Version: 1) Printed On: 5/2/2013 File Number: 13-00474 Section 1. The recitals contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are appropriated as described below: PROJECT TITLE: Financial Empowering Coaching RESOURCES: Citi Foundation $150,000 APPROPRIATION: $150,000 Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement the acceptance of and implementation of said Grant. Section 4. BRU CITY ATTORNEY 01171-ni \T-;'"-0-A,62) Footnotes: {1 } The herein authorization is further subject to all requirements that may be imposed by the including but not limited to those prescribed by Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
