HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-13-0158City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-13-0158 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 13-00506a Final Action Date: 4/25/2013 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT AND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO ALLOW THE ABILITY OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO MAINTAIN OR ENACT LOCAL LIVING WAGE ORDINANCES; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT, THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE, THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES AND TO THE MIAMI-DADE LEAGUE OF CITIES. WHEREAS, legislators in Tallahassee are trying to preempt the ability of local government to maintain or enact local ordinances to protect workers, their families, and local businesses; and WHEREAS, one of these bills is House Bill 655 to preempt local living wage ordinances; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Rick Scott and the members of the Florida Legislature to allow the ability of local governments to maintain or enact local living wage ordinances Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Governor Rick Scott, the members of the Florida Legislature, the Florida League of Cities and to the Miami -Dade League of Cities. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature by the Mayor.{1} Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, It shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
