Youth in today's underprivileged areas tend to lack the social capital and a future action plan needed for their forthcoming success. M3 is proud to partner with Miami Northwestern Senior High to establish a business centerr and implement a program that will enhance and create opportunities for the next generation of Miami Northwestern graduates. M3's breadth of experience and depth of resources have garnered the support and partnership of City of Miami Commissioners, Baptist Health, Pradere Furniture and Tiger Direct. The M3 strategic plan has four facets: (i) social capital success; (ii) impact projects; (iii) individual action plans; and (iv) M3 business center development. These essential components are tailored to maximize the impact on youths and their school and to foster community involvement. Social Capita! Success Relationships are the social currency of success. The M3 program will implement a monthly speaker series in order to introduce these students to current entrepreneurs and community leaders to begin to build their social capital. The key to building your social capital isn't the number of people you know, but rather that you learn how to create lasting and meaningful network relationships. The current members of M3 along with the speaker designees will serve as the foundation for network contacts and mentors. Impact Projects With a robust focus on decision making and problem solving, social and economic advancement will be tackled through the M3 Impact Projects. Success in these areas is created by utilizing teams to effectively implement change and leave an impression through a school enhancement project. Student projects will focus on ventures designed around the following categories: going green; beautification; technology/IT advancement; or health and wellness initiative. Individual Action Plan M3 aims to expand the vision of these youth beyond the boundaries of their own community. M3 will provide mentorship and facilitate the development of individual action plan that will define the student's personal life goals and the objectives require achieving these goals. M? Business Center Development M3 will leave a legacy of life -learning and educational innovation through the design and creation of a technology business center. The M3 Business Center will provide students and faculty with a location for collaboration, teaching, and learning with state of the art technology and print resources. The M3 team will display the values of self -less service, community involvement, and giving through collaborative partnerships required to fund the center's development and operation. The proposal outlines our strategic approach to align community partners, resource and our Leadership Miami team to address the risks and challenges facing our Miami youth while leaving a sustainable legacy to promulgate life-long learning. We look forward to addressing these community challenges and seek your approval to proceed. Please feel free to contact any of our project leadership team to address any questions or concerns. Thank you for this opportunity and your time in considering our proposal. M3 Page 4 of 14 Proprietary and Confidential OJECT' BACKGROU 2.A COMMUNITY PARTNER DESCRIPTION Miami Northwestern Senior High School is a public high school located in Miami, Florida, serving students in grades 9-12. It serves the Liberty City neighborhood of Miami. Miami Northwestern opened its doors in the fall of 1955. The high school was one of the first new vocational high schools and the first in nearly a generation that would serve the African American community. Even though Northwestern was a new school, it was a school with several unfinished rooms, no auditorium, and a cafeteria that had no tables or chairs. After more than 50 years of overcoming adversity Northwestern now has an auditorium and furniture in the cafeteria, but is still a school in great need. Even with such meager resources Northwestern has been an educational pillar in the Liberty City area. The school has made incredible educational strides within the last few years bringing the schools rating from an F to a B. 2.B STAKEHOLDER ALIGNMENT & NEEDS ANALYSIS Based on our team's analysis discussion with the project sponsor and the current environment of Miami Northwestern, several needs were identified that our proposed project will address, including:. • Students have limited access to anyone outside of their immediate neighborhood (i.e., community leaders) for mentorship and guidance • Current classrooms and learning environments lack essential educational assets and modern educational technology • Students and educational faculty have difficulty printing education materials due to the lack operable printers and print resources In addition to the immediate tangible needs identified with our community partner, our team's proposed project is tactically aligned with the several community stakeholders on addressing the foundational educational needs of our community. For example, the project is fully aligned with the Beacon Council's One Community One Goal's (OCOG) Business Environment Recommendations for Education as well as the education goals of the Greater Miami Chamber's Education Committee. As identified by the Beacon Council, and the many contributing partners of the OCOG strategic plan, advancements in education and the coordination of education in economic development will provide Miami -Dade with the greatest means to a sustainable competitive advantage. 2.0 IMPACT & BENEFITS SUMMARY The following benefits to the students and the community partner are expected to be achieved through impact of our program: • Local entrepreneurs and M3 will share their real world experiences with students and remain in contact with them after the conclusion of leadership Miami project via social media to build the next generation of leaders. • Miami Northwestem Senior High ninth grade students will collaborate ideas to improve their school through via the school improvement projects. Individual project team members will improve teamwork skills, problem solving, and planning while improving their school with projects focused on sustainability, health and wellness, beautification and improved technology. • Students will learn about themselves through assessments to identify individual strengths and areas to improve. Students will learn how to set individual goals and individual actionable plans to achieve high school goals that align to the student's long term personal vision. • M3 will create a state of the art business center to encourage students to achieve the highest standards in academics and technology through promulgating an environment of life -learning and community service.
