HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 13-00383 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF FUNDS, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $10,834, TO THE FOLLOWING AGENCIES AS STATED HEREIN: THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 TO THE TACOLCY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION AND THE AMOUNT OF $5,834 TO WOMEN IN TRANSITION OF SOUTH FLORIDA, INC.; ALLOCATING SAID FUNDS FROM THE POVERTY INITIATIVE PROGRAM, ACCOUNT NO. 14010.910101.882000; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH SAID AGENCIES, FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 12-0290, adopted July 26, 2012, the City Commission approved the allocation of funds, totaling $190,500, including a reserve in the amount of $33,597 for Districts 3 and 5, for public services activities from the Poverty Initiatives Program; and WHEREAS, Women in Transition of South Florida, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that empowers, educates and enhances the lives of women and girls (ages 16 and up) with the necessary skills to become self-sufficient in today's society such as granting access benefits to work and assisting with upgrading work skills; and WHEREAS, their target market includes, but is not limited to, women and girls that live in homeless shelters, high-school dropouts, seniors, those with HIV -AIDS and the disabled; and WHEREAS, Tacolcy Economic Development Corporation ("TEDC") is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of affordable housing; and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends the allocation of funds, from the Poverty Initiative Program, in the amount of $10,834, to the following agencies as stated herein: the amount of $5,000 to TEDC and the amount of $5,834 to Women in Transition of South Florida, Inc.; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of funds, in the total amount of $10,834, is authorized, to the following agencies as stated herein: the amount of $5,000 to TEDC and the amount of $5,834 to Women in Transition of South Florida, Inc, from the Poverty Initiatives Program, Account No. 14010.910101.882000. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute agreements, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with said agencies, for said purpose. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
