A not -for -profit dedicated to recognizing and rewarding young people in our
community for positive behavior, accomplishments and good deeds!
Dear Friends of Do The Right Thing:
Another school year has begun and we hope everyone had a wonderful summer. For the first month of the
school year, Do The Right Thing had a record number of schools nominate as well as a record number of
nominations. One hundred and thirty seven Miami -Dade County- Public Schools nominated a total of 760
students. Keep them coming everyone! One of my goals this year is to get to know our schools,
administrators, teachers and students better. It is no easy feat as Do The Right Thing works with our entire
county of over 400 schools, however, I will be making site visits to any interested schools. If you would like
me to come speak to your teachers and/or students about the Do The Right Thing Program, please call us at
305-579-3344. Also, in our ongoing effort to encourage folks to nominate kids, DTRT is once again having
our monthly drawings for $25 gift cards to places such as Regal Theaters, Starbucks, Ruby Tuesdays, etc.
Anyone who submits a valid nomination, which meets our minimum criteria, will have their name entered into
a drawing for the gift card of the month. Thanks, as always, for your support of Do The Right Thing and
remember, if you know a child who has "done the right thing," we want to hear from you. Find us at

DTRT Hosts Youth Rally
Against Violence
Six Hundred Students Take A Pledge Against Violence
Now a highly anticipated annual event, Do The Right Thing was
pleased to host the "Back Without A Bang!' Youth Rally Against
Violence at Jungle Island on September 26th. Fifth grade
students from nine City of Miami elementary schools pledged a
school year without violence by taking the "Victory Against
Violence!" pledge led by Chief of Police Manuel Orosa. Several
schools also perforated unique presentations against violence
such as skits, songs and dances. The "Back Without A Bang!" Youth Rally Against Violence was created by
Do The Right Thing to address the national problem of school violence and encourage a more peaceful
environment in our schools. After signing the 4 foot X 8 foot pledge card which will be mailed to Govemor
Rick Scott, the students toured Jungle Island, took in a few animal shows and enjoyed pizza at the Pavilion.
Students from Edison Park K-8 Center take the 'Victory Against Violence!"
pledge.
