RE: Pocket Item — Urging Governor Scott and Members of the Florida Legislature to
Support Funding of the Local Services Program
By this memorandum, I am respectfully requesting to discuss the following pocket item at the
January 24, 2013, Commission meeting.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
URGING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT AND THE MEMEBERS OF THE FLORIDA
LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT FUNDING OF THE LOCAL SERVICES PROGRAM
(LSP) DURING THE 2013 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS
DESIGNATED HEREIN.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
URGING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT AND THE MEMEBERS OF THE FLORIDA
LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT FUNDING OF THE LOCAL SERVICES PROGRAM (LSP)
DURING THE 2013 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED
HEREIN,
WHEREAS, the Local Services Program funds elderly service programs throughout the
State of Florida, including the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, these programs provide vital services to elderly citizens, including home
care, meals, and other supportive assistance; and
WHEREAS, funding for the Local Services Program in Miami -Dade County has been
reduced by approximately 30% over the last five years;
WHEREAS, any further reduction in funding levels would impact thousands of elderly,
low-income residents in our community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Rick Scott and the members of
the Florida Legislature to support funding of the Local Services Program during the 2013
legislative session.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor
Scott, the Secretary of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, and the members of the Florida
Legislature.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.(])
ti) If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end often
calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
