Subject: Resolution authorizing an additional owner contingency allowance to Southeastern Engineering
Contractors, Inc., for the San Marco Island Drainage Improvement Project, B-30588.
Purpose of Item:
To authorize an additional owner contingency allowance to Southeastern Engineering Contractors, Inc.,
for the San Marco Island Drainage Improvement Project, B-30588, to cover any future unforeseen work,
in an amount not to exceed $161,100, thereby increasing the award value from $2,022,751.17, to an
amount not to exceed $2,183,851.17; allocating funds for said increase from Capital Improvement Project
No. B-30588.
Background Information:
Five (5) bids were received by the Office of the City Clerk on September 2, 2011, pursuant to Invitation to
Bid No. 10-11-036, for the San Marco Island Drainage Improvement Project, B-30588 (Project). The City
Manager approved the execution of a Construction Contract with Southeastern. Engineering Contractors,
Inc. (Southeastern), the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, in the amount of $1,838,864.70, plus an
owner contingency of $183,886.47, for a total not to exceed award value of $2,022,751.17, awarded under
the expedited list of projects pursuant to Section 18-117 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as
amended. The original contingency has been utilized for owner requested changes, unforeseen conditions,
and preventative measures including additional drainage infrastructure, specialized street sweeping, and a
temporary emergency pump and generator, respectively. The requested additional owner contingency
allowance is intended to cover unpredictable or unforeseen work necessary for the completion of the
Project. Funds are to be allocated from Capital Improvement Project No. B-30588.
