Re: Recommendation to Defer PZ.6
Dear Vice -Chairman Sarnoff:
This letter serves as the Miami River Commission's (MRC) "official
statement" requested in City Resolution 00-320, regarding the January
26, Agenda Item PZ. 6, which impacts the Miami River.
During the MRC's December 5, 2011 public board meeting, the MRC
considered the current draft ordinance and passed a resolution
recommending "the City of Miami's draft ordinance, regarding storage
of recreational vessels at homes, first be considered by the City's
Waterfront Advisory Board and the MRC's concerns (i.e., current draft
only allows boats on trailers, which together are less than 6 feet tall,
city employees determining the seaworthiness and functionality of
vessels, the concept of a "Warrant" which is another tax, in order to
keep a boat) and consider modeling it after the more acceptable
Miami -Dade County Ordinance regarding recreational boat storage at
homes." The City Commission deferred the item at 2nd reading in late
2011, in order for the City administration to meet with interest groups
to improve the draft, yet the City never contacted the MRC and the
draft hasn't been revised. Therefore I respectfully recommend the
item be deferred, so that the City Commission's intended meetings to
be conducted in order to improve and revise the draft ordinance.
Your time and continued support for the Miami River are appreciated.
Sincerely,
Horacio Stuart Aguirre
Chairman,
