Why would you like to serve on the Community Relations Board? Miami is my Home, through and through, a city with which I feel directly connected. I have lived 6 amazing years outside of South Florida, spent countless summers in Chile, and love visiting classic urban cities, but 1 keep coming back to Miami, the only place where who I am makes sense and I am sure belong. I am committed to making Miami the best city it can be because the city's identity forms a strong foundation for many people, including my own. Miami embodies the American dream, a city of opportunity for all, a unique city where an immigrant population is able to freely integrate itself, explore their identity as participants in the country's progress, and build their own dreams. As an urban planner and real estate development professional, Miami is a lifetime project I hope to dedicate myself to, creating and collaborating on Miami -sensitive solutions that can improve my home. Miami's mix of cultures, warm climate, beaches, architecture and urban redevelopment designs, form a chaotic and eclectic backdrop for a city that plays such a strong international role, making living and working in South Florida a unique experience. l want to ensure that the city's colors are leveraged to create places for cultural exchange and economic development, that preserve the diversity that make Miami the unique microcosm it is today, while inviting others to move here and contribute to a new era of growth. I also want to make sure that our political, business, and non-profit leadership understand the value of social justice in the city, and ensure that all residents have the opportunity to enjoy its treasures. I want to serve on the City of Miami's Community Relations Board to ensure that the City itself is an active supporter and participant in the new energies that are surging throughout the City. I also want to ensure that residents of the City have a CRB board that they know they can turn to for ideas and guidance. 2. Can you dedicate at least 10 hours per month to serving on the Community Relations Board? Yes, I can. I am currently a hard working professional that is dedicated to working on Miami issues and have the fortune of being able to commit personal time to work on issues outside of my work. 3. What special skills would you bring to the Community Relations Board? I am a professionally trained urban planner and real estate development professional that understands how the City of Miami has grown and can grow in the future. I am a strong communicator, both in English and Spanish, and believe in the power of communication as a tool for increased effectiveness in projects. I have a strong understanding,of all of Miami's existing community groups and their mission and goals, which 1 have obtained through my more professional role at a local non-profit affordable housing development group. 4. What is your understanding of the role of the Community Relations Board in the City of Miami? The CRB exists to help embrace, encourage, and ensure harmonious dialogue, interaction, and cooperation amongst Miami's residents. The CRB serves as a link between residents and the City's representatives and administration, fielding concerns about issues of discrimination, unfair treatment, or tension amongst different resident groups. The Board also acts as a leader in generating ideas and solutions that can be implemented by the Board, by residents themselves, or by the City to help improve the conditions of inter -group dialogue and relations. 5. Do you feel that positive inter -group relations can be achieved in the City of Miami? I wholeheartedly believe that positive dialogue, relations, and cooperation can be achieved amongst Miami's different residents groups. I know how much all of Miami's residents love their city, and thus I know we can all rally around the goal of creating a better Miami. The tricks lie in figuring out how the CRB can host dialogue and lead the creation of events and partnerships that encourage better interaction between residents groups, united with the same goal of making Miami a better world -class city for all of its residents to be able to enjoy.
