A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW
SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "MIAMI CHECKPOINT AND
SATURATION PATROL PROJECT," AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS, CONSISTING
OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION, FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$120,000, TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY; AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT THE GRANT AWARD AND TO EXECUTE THE
NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY
IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE
GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") submitted a grant application to the Florida Department of
Transportation, to fund highway safety; and
WHEREAS, the City received notification that said application was approved for funding in an
amount not to exceed $120,000; and
WHEREAS, funds from this grant will be used for overtime operations to reverse the trend of
impaired driving related traffic crashes and fatalities in the City and to enhance its enforcement efforts
and deterrence capability; and
WHEREAS, funding will also include overtime compensation for essential clerical personnel
directly involved in the administration of this grant; and
WHEREAS, the effective date of the subgrant agreement is October 9, 2012, and only those
costs incurred on or after that date and before October 1, 2013 are eligible for reimbursement; and
WHEREAS, it would be appropriate for the City Manager to accept said grant and to establish a
new Special Revenue Project for the appropriation of said award;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are
appropriated as described below:

RESOURCES: Florida Department of Transportation $120,000
APPROPRIATIONS: Highway Safety Programs $120,000
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to accept the grant award and execute the
necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney in order to implement the acceptance
and administration of the grant award.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}
Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may
be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable
City Charter and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten
calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
