Background Information:
The City of Miami entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Sheriff of Palm Beach
County in April of 2012 for the Miami Police Department's sworn members' participation on Region 7
Regional Drug Enforcement Strike Force ("RDESF"). Pursuant to the executed MOA, the Sheriff of
Palm Beach County (acting in the capacity as the fiduciary and fiscal agent for funding provided by the
Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), has obligated funding, to participating agencies for
expenditures associated with approved RDESF operations, for the performance period covering April
24, 2012 through June 30, 2012.
The amendment will extend the term of this MOA to December 31, 2012. The City is eligible to receive
reimbursement funding approved by the Co-chairs of the Region 7 RDESF for activities associated with
the investigation and prosecution of crimes related to prescribed controlled substances. This extension
wit allow for continued reimbursement funding to the City of Miami Police Department that will exceed
the $25,000, and therefore, requires the City Commission's approval.
