HomeMy WebLinkAboutSummary FormDate: / ,AUG 31 2012 AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM FILE ID: f19- 6/0o5- Requesting Department: Police Commission Meeting Date: L/ /1 / 17- District Impacted: ALL Type: M Resolution n Ordinance n Emergency Ordinance 111 Discussion Item Law Department Matter ID No. n Other Subject: Memorandum of Understanding for Overhaul of Vessels Initially Purchased under the Port Security Grant through Miami -Dade County Purpose of Item: It is recommended that the Miami City Commission adopt the attached Resolution, with attachment(s), authorizing the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Miami -Dade County to allow for a comprehensive overhaul of the engines and generators for the two (2) vessels purchased and operated by the City of Miami under the 2005 Port Security Grant, pursuant to Resolution No. 06-0198, adopted on April 6, 2006, by which the City of Miami accepted a grant award to purchase said two vessels; authorizing the City Manager to execute this MOU, in substantially the attached form, and any other documents necessary to implement the acceptance and administration of said MOU; and further authorizing the City Manager to execute future MOU(s) should additional funding become available for use by the Miami Police Departments under this Federal Grant Program. Director City Manager Page 1 of 2 ATTACHMENT Background Information: The Miami -Dade County Police Department and the City of Miami Police Department are providing 24- hour monitoring, patrolling, surveillance and security inspections (above and below the waterline) through the Port of Miami and the Port of the Miami River. Pursuant to Resolution No. 06-0198, the City of Miami was awarded $742,270 from the Department of Justice, the United States Department of Homeland Security, under the Port Security Grant Program through Miami -Dade County, to purchase two vessels with specialized electronics. Via this Memorandum of Understanding, the City of Miami will be provided with a comprehensive overhaul of the engines and generators of the two (2) vessels purchased and operated by the City of Miami under the 2005 Port Security Grant. The overhaul for improved performance of these two (2) vessels will include at a minimum the cost of engine replacement and installation and generators for these two (2) boats. The upgrade may also include electronic and other enhancements to ensure that the vessels are properly equipped to maximize their effectiveness in security operations.
