Thompson City Clerk Date: September 13, 2012 Subject: Overtown Advisory Board/ Overtown Community Oversight Board Appointed Members References: Agenda for September 27, 2012 Enclosures: Current Members, Qualifying Chart, Applications for Appointed Members The Overtown Advisory Board/Overtown Community Oversight Board was created via Ordinance 12858 amending Article XI of Chapter 2 of the City Code to encourage and support housing, job creation, economic and business development, educational opportunities, and historic and cultural preservation. The Board shall provide written recommendations to the City Commission regarding activities, developments, and improvements within or substantially impacting the residents of the Overtown Area. The Overtown Advisory Board/Overtown Community Oversight Board, in addition to five (5) elected members, shall consist of six (6) members who shall be appointed. In accordance with Ordinance 12858, the District 5 City Commissioner shall appoint five (5) qualified members and the Mayor shall appoint one (1) qualified member to the Board. Additionally, the District 5 Commissioner shall appoint one (1) qualified youth board member, and the Overtown Advisory Board/Overtown Community Oversight Board shall appoint one (1) qualified youth board member. An ad was placed in a newspaper of general circulation to solicit qualified prospective appointees. See attached. Seven (7) appointments are required at this time. • Mayor Tomas Regalado has one (1) nomination for an appointed seat: 1. One (1) nomination for a qualified individual for an appointed seat. The eligible applicants are: Timothy Barber, Andrea Copeland, Brother Lyle Grandison, Sherese James -Dalton, Irby McKnight, Reginald Munnings, C.C. Reed, Martha Whisby. • Commissioner Spence -Jones has six (6) nominations for appointed seats: 1. Five (5) nominations for qualified individuals for appointed seats. The eligible applicants are: Timothy Barber, Andrea Copeland, Brother Lyle Grandison, Sherese James -Dalton, Irby McKnight, Reginald Munnings, C.C. Reed, Martha Whisby. 2. One (1) nomination for a qualified youth board member. The eligible applicants are: Brandi Johnson and Demetrius Nottage. For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum to the Agenda Office, we are requesting that this issue be placed on the September 27, 2012 Commission agenda.
