HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 12-01031 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "FY 12 SOLVING COLD CASES WITH DNA," CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $500,000; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT AWARD. WHEREAS, the grant award will allow the City of Miami Police Department to review, prioritize, examine and evaluate homicide cold cases to identify physical evidence with the potential to yield DNA that can be submitted for testing; and WHEREAS, the grant funding will be utilized to cover overtime personnel, travel and operating costs associated; and WHEREAS, this award does not require any local match; however, $774.00 in non-federal funds will be required to offset the difference between the $500,774 approved program budget and the $500,000 provided through federal funding; and WHEREAS, said grant is awarded for the covering period of October 1, 2012, through March 31, 2014; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are appropriate as described below: FUND TITLE: FY 12 Solving Cold Cases with DNA RESOURCES: Department of Justice/Office of Justice Programs $500,000 APPROPRIATION: Expenses for the operation of FY 12 Solving Cold Cases with DNA Program $500,000 Section 3. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE O. BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
