Background Information:
Due to the high unemployment rates, the City of Miami is establishing a new comprehensive
workforce center ("center") to bring added employment and training resources to the community. To
establish said center, the City is partnering with The South Florida Workforce Investment Board
(SFWIB) , which will provide funding for the operation, administration and training for job seekers.
The City also worked with the Miami Dade County Public Schools to secure 6,200 square feet at the
Lindsey Hopkins Educational Center located at 750 NW 20 Street for the establishment of the One
Stop Workforce Center. The site had to be refurbished to accommodate the new offices and services.
The construction work took longer than anticipated and the agreement needs to be extended to
December 31, 2012 to complete the project.
