HomeMy WebLinkAbout14-00298 BackupThe Miami Film Life Center Transforming Lives Through Cinema OVERVIEW: The Miami Film Life Center (MFLC) will be a South -Florida based arts institute providing educational and professional resources related to the motion picture industry. With the fundamental belief that film serves as a beacon and is the most powerful and influential medium of our time, the MFLC will curate classes and workshops for adults and children, manage a state of the art editing facility, host a film screening series, as well as serve as an employment resource center for qualified film professionals seeking opportunities in Miami thereby creating a positive impact on the City's community and cultural life. MISSION: The Center's mission is to enhance awareness and accessibility of cinema and the filmmaking process to the residents of Southeast Overtown, Park West, Omni and Midtown areas. By providing resources, training programs, and networking opportunities to community residents, the Miami Film Life Center hopes to stimulate interest and support new and emerging filmmakers of color. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS: The MFLC's programming calendar will include the following activities and public offerings: ■ Independent Film Series -Monthly innovative and groundbreaking work of local, national and international filmmakers ■ The Art of Cinema Master Classes — Quarterly workshops covering a variety of disciplines intrinsic to the film industry including acting, screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing. Instructors will be selected from among Hollywood's most highly respected artists, film practitioners and academics ■ Youth Filmmaker Boot Camp — An extensive hands-on interdisciplinary summer program designed to teach the art and business of filmmaking to children ages 13-18. Washington Television and Film Club- work with and enhance the existing film and television program at Booker T. by creating a mechanism where the students produce :30 and :60 second commercials for businesses located in Overtown as well as a PSA for Overtown featuring businesses, longtime residents, new residents and influential political and social figures in the City. These commercials will live on the MFLC You Tube channel but will also be made available to the business for advertising purposes. PROFESSIONAL RESOURCES: The Miami Film Life Center will feature The Production Hive, an online marketplace for the hiring of local professionals with expertise in film, video and digital media. The Production Hive will connect professionals with those seeking the services of those professionals. The Center will also boast a library featuring books, magazines, periodicals and guides to filmmaking. Membership will be required to borrow books and use the Center's resources but all other facilities are open to the public. OPERATIONS: The Center will be managed by Film Life CEO Jeff Friday, Film Life Director of Special Projects and Events, Ghana Wilson and operate with a full-time Program Manager and d Programming Assistant. The staff will produce a monthly E-newsletter, maintain the Center's website as well as work to promote the mission of the Center and carry out its programs. MARKETING and PUBLIC RELATIONS: The Center will engage a local public relations and marketing professional to conduct a comprehensive public awareness, community relations and marketing plan. The consultant will use traditional as well as social media to build awareness of the Center's activities. Scope of Work April 1, 2014- March 31, 2015 1, Film Life, Inc.("Consultant") shall utilize its extensive professional relationships and resources networks developed over seventeen (17) years to assist the CRA in its redevelopment goal of creating a film and television education resource center, the Miami Film Life Center ("Center"), that will serve to enhance awareness and accessibility of film and filmmaking to the residents of Overtown and its surrounding communities. With a focus on education, professional development, training programs and networking opportunities, the MFLC seeks to stimulate interest and support for community based new and emerging filmmakers, promote film industry investment and career opportunities benefitting residents and business stakeholders of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Area 2. Consultant shall develop an educational program curriculum to be offered through the Center that offers training and networking opportunities for members. 3. Consultant shall assist in identifying film related opportunities for members. 4. Consultant shall develop and assist in implementing a membership drive marketing plan to establish a membership database at the Center. 5. Consultant shall plan, coordinate and implement a minimum of three film screening networking events during the Project Term. Screening will be of Classic, family themed films targeted to Overtown residents. 6. Consultant shall plan, coordinate, and implement a minimum of three master class workshops during the Project Term. Master Class workshops shall be taught by reputable industry professionals with significant experience in the subject matter class. 7. Consultant shall plan, coordinate and implement a summer youth filmmaking camp for a maximum of 20 youth residents of Overtown. 8. Consultant shall provide technical assistance to Booker T. Washington High School to create an ongoing Television and Film Club to be housed at the Miami Film Life Center. The Film and Television Club will provide students with professional education and training in the various disciplines in filmmaking (writing, directing, producing, editing). 9. Consultant shall plan, coordinate and implement a minimum of six micro -industry workshops on a variety of topics related to television and film production and education. These workshops will be facilitated by local Miami based professionals with significant experience in the subject matter.
