Dear Mr. Rollason:
Re: IMPACT Basel, an Urban Arts Encounter
Thank you for your interest in our project as kindly conveyed by Eleanor Kluger.
I am pleased to enclose our draft presentation and budget for your perusal and
consideration for inclusion in your upcoming CRA Board meeting on July 28, 2004. The
art event we are proposing for the area, IMPACT Basel, is community based, part of the
larger effort we have been working on to transform the neighborhood into a work of art
and to establish its short and long-term role as a fitting setting for the major cultural
institutions that will soon take up residence there.
The MIART Foundation is a start-up not -for -profit advanced art education program
which we plan to locate in the Bond Shoe Warehouse through the largesse of the owner,
Avra Jain. Dr. Carol Damian, Chair of the Visual Arts Department of FIU, is our
Chairman, and their students and Faculty plan to take part in IMPACT Basel, as well as
DASH and other local art schools. We plan to combine our event with an adjacen art
event planned by arist Alex Steneck at the OMNI, which has the support of MPAC.
When I met with Sam Keller, Director of Art Basel in Switzerland recently, he expressed
interest in helping to make Miami THE arts capitol of North America. I hope like
ourselves you consider this effort to be timely, as a delay of another year to launch the
area may result in a backslide, as I notice even now that the vagrancy in the area is
returning.
Please do not hesitate to call me should you have any questions.
With very best regards,
Tina Spiro, ' - sident, MIART Foundation
