The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust was created to preserve the Virginia Key Beach Park in
cooperation with the Depaittnent of Parks and Recreation and other City depaittnents in a manner
consistent with the environmental health, public use, historical importance of the Park and the
aspirations of the African American community and shall propose policy, planning, and design to
ensure maximum community utilization, enjoyment, and maintenance of the Park as an open green
space compatible with its historical and recreational characteristics and accessible to the public.
Ordinance 13065, adopted on May 14, 2009, which amended Chapter 38, Article 6 of the City Code,
authorized the waiver of the eight -consecutive year term limitation to allow members of the Virginia
Key Beach Park Trust to be reconsidered annually for an additional one-year term by a unanimous
vote of the members of the City Commission.
Four (4) appointments are required at this time.
• Vice Chairman Marc David Sarnoff has one (1) nomination for a seat currently:
1. Vacant.
• The Commission -at -Large has three (3) confirmations to be made from the nomination(s)
made by the trust for seats currently:
1. Vacant.l.
2. Patrick Range II, whose term expired on February 1, 2012.*
3. Enid C. Pinkney, whose term expired on March 11, 2012, has served since February 8,
2001, and would require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5) vote of the Commission, in
addition to a 4/5ths waiver of residency requirement per Section 2-884(a) of the City
Code.
Note: The City Clerk's Office received a memo nominating Patrick Range II to the Virginia
Key Beach Park Trust. This nomination requires confirmation by the City Commission.
