Dear Business Improvement District Marketing Committee & Board of Directors,
We are proud to bring back for a third year the now signature event, The Great Grove Bed Race, to
the streets of downtown Coconut Grove. Attached is a fact sheet summarizing the amazing
awareness and attendance we have driven in the past two years to our beloved village.
We are requesting approval of the date of September 4th, 2011 and guidance on the current
application process as we have been informed there is a new system now adopted by the committees
and boards.
In addition we attached our city of Miami special events application that has been submitted. Please
let us know when we can present in full and for the hoped funding to the BID.
Thank you as always for your support and enthusiasm for our event.

-FACT SHEET FOR GROVE BID RE: GREAT GROVE BED RACE
HISTORY:
WHAT:
The earliest known bed race was in New England in 1920. Bed racing
started in Coconut Grove over 30 thirty years ago and was a longtime
community tradition until it stopped in 2001. In 2009, the Grove Merchant
Group revived and reinvented South Florida bed racing, known today as
"The Great Grove Bed Race".
The wildly comedic bed race involves rolling beds down village streets in
Coconut Grove with the local South Florida community, individuals,
businesses, organizations, and clubs sponsoring the beds.
Teams consist of 5 members, four (4) races and one (1) rider, racing against
the clock until the fastest beds in each division are determined. Divisions are
Men's, Women's, Co -Ed and Corporate/Over 30. Those finalists go head -to -
head in a race for the top position. More important than the speed trophies
are the top prizes are awarded for theme, engineering, decor, best overall and
crowd favorite through our 1'EXT your vote telecom sponsor.
Open to the public, the race is organized as a fun community event to
improve awareness and economic impact to the Grove Village and raise
funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami Dade. For additional
information, please visit www.theareatgrovebedrace.com
