AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AMENDING CHAPTER 2/ARTICLE IX OF THE CODE OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, ENTITLED "ADMINISTRATION/CITY-OWNED PROPERTY,
MORE PARTICULARLY BY CREATING SECTION 2-779, ENTITLED "SIGNS ON CITY -OWNED PROPERTY,"
TO PERMIT THE PLACEMENT OF OUTDOOR ADVERTISING SIGNS ON. CITY OF—MIAMI OWNED
PROPERTY, SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE CITY MANAGER AND TILE DIRECTOR OF PLANNING
AND ZONING; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Background Information:
To mitigate the effects of the increased costs associated with the operation and maintenance of certain public venues, the
City seeks to allow the erection of signs on city -owned property, subject to several conditions, to support the operation of
these properties. The proposed legislation permits the placement of outdoor advertising on certain venues, subject to the
approval of' the City Manager, in consultation with the Directors of Planning & Zoning and Public Facilities. A permit
may only be obtained for the James L. Knight Center, the Miami Children's Museum and the Olympia
Building/Gusman Theater, which are venues for large assemblies, performances, exhibitions, or events,
having a capacity in excess of. 1,000 patrons that are operated by the City of' Miami or a 501(c)(3)
corporation. The size of any sign may not exceed the size limitations placed by the County Code and shall be integrated
into the architecture or wall of the building, as more particularly described by the ordinance. The design of the sign shall
be consistent with the operation of the underlying venue.
